Play it Again, Sam

Today I’d just like to put in a plug for one of my favorite SL products – the wonderful Musical Alchemy pianos made by Persephone Milk. I like these so much that I have one in our public dance club and another in our private home. They are beautifully made and highly detailed, not to mention a lot of fun. Here are some of the things they will do:
  • Play a number of included songs. There is also a “playing” animation for either a single pianist or a duet.
  • Configure the piano open or closed or partially open
  • Change the finish of the piano
  • Rez a number of props like candles or a vase of flowers
  • There are a lot of poses available to a listener as well as the pianist. If you’ve always wanted to emulate the torch singers of yore and drape yourself sexily on top of a grand piano, here’s the perfect way to do it.
  • The piano is also an internet radio and can tune your parcel music stream. Some URLs to all-piano streams are included as presets.
What they don’t do:
One of the things they can’t do is actually play…have you strike a key or keys and have the piano respond with a note or a chord. There are a few musical instruments in SL that are playable, in a sense. However, they’re best used as a composition tool, due to unavoidable response lag. …string notes together one at a time to create a sequence for later playback. For actual real time musical performance, it’s better to use a real world instrument and a shoutcast stream to feed your live performance into SL. Use the Musical Alchemy piano (or the appropriate SL instrument) to provide a “playing” animation at the same time.

Also, they are not “sex pianos” – the poses are cute and sexy, but not erotic.

No, Persephone didn’t pay me to plug her pianos. Aside from being a customer of hers, we don’t even know each other.

  1. I kinda like the ornamentation on top of the piano, myself. ;)

  2. LOL! I can't pass a piano in SL without posing on it!
